When I think of Haitians, I think of a powerful example of melanated brilliance. A people who united intellectually, culturally, spiritually, and physically, and overcame extreme odds to overthrow their brutal, racist, and seemingly invincible French oppressors. But what the world sees is different.
In the age of “Trumpism,” many in the black community have found themselves more politically aware, and more specifically, increasingly at-odds with the politics of this country. There’s been an even greater disdain and distrust of the government.
